On May 10th, the Belovodsk School attended an international competition “Reading to Children” held by the International University of Central Asia in Tokmok City. One of the students, a 10th grader named Bogdan Turchin, took the 1st place nomination in “Expressive Reading”. On May 24th, the results of the International Olympiad from last December were announced, and six of the children received first place in their respective grades. The next day, the students celebrated the end of the school year with a Last Bell holiday.
The Tokmok Gym held the long-awaited event—“Easter”—on May 5. This event took the theme from “The Chronicles of Narnia”, and emphasized the aspect of God’s Love and Jesus’ sacrifice that was analogized in the story. Around 500 people total came to this event, and it was a resounding success. Some Muslim teachers were hesitant to attend, but felt touched at the conclusion of the program and expressed wishes to see more of these performances in the future.
Since primary education is only four years in Kyrgyzstan, ceremonies were held at Ivanovka, Jabarshy, Kara-balta, and Kemin schools for 4th grade graduates as well as 11th years completing their secondary education. The students shared what they had learned during their time, expressed their gratitude for teachers and parents, and listened to words of guidance and encouragement from pastors and coordinators.
Mia Lin, a missionary and author from California, came to the orphanage at Kara-balta for five days. She got acquainted with the children and helped serve them. She used her creativity to tell captivating stories and got to know each child. The children drew wishes, and she prayed for them to achieve their dreams and reach their goals.
